We are an Episcopal mission of the Diocese of Southeast Florida.
Church of the Advent began in 1986 with the commitment of 25 people to establish an Episcopal church in Palm City under the guidance of the Diocese of Southeast Florida and with the support of Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Stuart. The first service was held on the First Sunday of Advent (November 30, 1986) in a private home, and work began immediately for a church building on the current property donated by Saint Mary’s. Exactly one year later the building (now our Parish Hall) was dedicated and the first Rector installed.
As the congregation outgrew the space, our current church building and pavilion were built in 1999 and it was dedicated in March 2000. The original building was then converted into classrooms, nursery, and a Parish Hall with an extension added for a Youth Room. The life of the church ebbed and flowed providing worship and spiritual nurture for what grew to be hundreds of people over the next nine years.
In February 2009, The Reverend Dr. Robert “Bo” Shires, was called as Priest-in-Charge. The church took a healthy introspective look at who we are, why we are here and what God is calling us to be and do. Out of that sincere examination came our Core Values, Mission and Vision. Seven Ministry Teams were established and specific goals created from each team to guide Church of the Advent as we strive to fulfill our mission.
There is energy, enthusiasm and celebration among our family of faith. We are moving excitedly towards our future following God’s call to us. You are invited to join us on our journey to teach God’s love, live it every day and share it with all.
